The Only Constant Is Change

As Inspire approaches our 13th anniversary (yep, 13 years), it has caused me to reflect on all the changes this little gym has been through.  I thought I’d share some of the memories with you.

It all started in October of 2006.  At the budding age of 35 I opened One On One Health And Fitness LLC at 554-D Riverside Drive. It was a tiny space that I filled with selectorized equipment so that I could ‘look’ like a big box gym. The back 1/3 of the space did not have air conditioning. Imagine doing your FITT sessions in 95 degree weather!

At that time all I knew was how to offer 1-on-1 programs and bootcamp classes, so that’s what we did. I didn’t have much business sense back then, trainers came, trainers went and business was unpredictable at best.

In 2008 we moved next door to 554-C (mainly because it had A/C in the back!) where we remain to this day. I continued to run the business in the manner I knew until 2012.

It was then that I began hearing about a new way of running a fitness studio. Smaller gyms like mine were beginning to focus more on “functional training”, reducing equipment and adding in semi-private training (sessions with 4 or less people). I decided to take the plunge and we completely revamped the space and how we operate. I learned more about how to actually run a business and made some internal changes as well.  It was an evolution with much growing and ‘opportunities’ along the way.

By 2014 I began to realize that One On One Health And Fitness really did not express who we were anymore. I worked with a branding coach, and in early 2015, Inspire Personal Fitness was born. With the new name came a new logo and another overhaul of the gym. What also came was growth. In 2015 the gym almost doubled its membership!

It has been four years since we rebranded and the gym, our memberships and our culture remains very similar to what we rolled out in 2015. And as I look towards the future, I have begun to realize that the best way for me to support you is to change (or maybe adapt is a better word) again.

You see, I was told back in 2012 that the only way to safely achieve strength gains, weight loss and results was through 1-on-1 and semi-private training. That you couldn’t do it in groups larger than 4 people.

I have spent much time studying and reflecting over the last 6 months.   What I have come to realize is that size doesn’t matter. (hee hee) What really matters is the quality of coaching, the creativity of the programming,  and the supportive community we provide that gets you the results you want in a safe manner.

And with that in mind, I give you Inspire Personal Fitness’ Metabolic Resistance Training (MRT)!

With a mixture of strength, weight loss and endurance workouts, our brand new MRT program is the most complete fitness and weight loss program out there.

Metabolic Resistance Training (MRT) is a form of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) that involves total body, resistance-based exercises done in quick succession with little or no rest between.  HIIT protocols use a variety of work to rest ratios performed for multiple rounds.  Typical workouts last 10 – 30 minutes (not including warm-up and cool-down).

What really makes this kind of training perfect for fat burning are the short rests and alternating, non-competing exercises.

Alternating sets allows you to work different areas of your body when you would otherwise be resting with the straight set format.  Plus, by working another area of your body with a non-competing exercise you allow your body to recover from the previous exercise(s). The result is more work accomplished in less time – the cornerstone of any sound fat loss program.

There are a number of different ways to perform alternating sets:

Supersets:  Alternate between 2 different non-competing exercises (e.g. upper body and lower body such as pushups and lunges)

Trisets:  Alternate between 3 different exercises (e.g. push, pull, and lower body such as pushups, rows, and lunges)

Circuits:  Alternate between four or more different exercises

The result is a metabolism that is supercharged so that it keeps burning fat even after you have stopped exercising.  Plus, you get a built-in heart healthy cardiovascular workout!

We are redefining what small group means. Our sessions will be limited to no more than 10 people. This will allow the coaches to give everyone a 1-on-1 experience in a group environment. Is this possible? A RESOUNDING YES! Because we, your coaches, understand how to modify your workouts, even in this group environment.

The MRT membership will include:

1) Unlimited sessions (45 time slots a week)

2) Smaller groups (capped at 10) equals more hands on instruction from coaches

3) A more complete fitness program combining strength and cardio which is better for fat loss

4) Workout and nutrition tracking all in one place so you can see your strength gains and fat loss

5) Individualized registered dietician meal plans
